Michelle, an award-winning wildlife photographer and and senior editor at Alaska Magazine, will share photos and adventure tales from her travels in the field to photograph the largest land predators on the planet: the grizzlies, browns, and polar bears of Alaska. Her work has appeared in national magazines and around the globe, and she is represented by Aurora Stock Agency and Getty. In addition, she runs photo and wildlife-viewing excursions in Alaska and Colorado through her company Wild Departures ( www.wilddepartures.com ). Come and enjoy an evening of incredible images from Alaska, the Last Frontier, and beyond—and gather a few tips for perfecting your own images.
Our Special Topic for the monthly competition will be something different. Members may submit 2-3 photos, the first from a photographer that influenced your photographic style (maybe John Fielder or Annie Leibovitz). The member may then show one or two of their own photos that shows the influence. Photographic styles might be: travel, portraiture, National Geographic-like, editorial, landscape, wildlife, documentary. Ted Wood, an editorial photographer and multimedia producer based in Boulder, will give a talk entitled “Environmental photojournalism in the age of lies and skeptics – what visual storytellers can do to move the needle on climate change awareness” at the Flatirons Photo Club monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Har HaShem Synagogue in Boulder.
His work has appeared in Vanity Fair, Smithsonian, National Wildlife, The New York Times, Outside, The Nature Conservancy Magazine and dozens of national and international publications.
Wood is the co-founder of The Story Group, a multimedia journalism company based in Boulder that specializes in environmental stories from the western U.S. Wood has produced more than 20 short videos through Story Group productions focusing on climate change effects and other environmental issues.

Russ Croop, an iPhone artist who has creatively advanced the art of the iPhone, will be the featured speaker at the Flatirons Photo Club monthly meeting and competition Thursday, Jan. 12.
Croop is a retired Boulder Valley English, theater and photography teacher who is well-known for his iPhone photo paintings of familiar Boulder scenes. He has been a presenter and judge for the club going back to 2011, and he will be updating us about his latest works.
Croop is a Lafayette resident. He also shoots weddings, portraits (including animals), real estate, products, architecture, landscapes and a variety of other specialties.

Next Wednesday, September 7, the Photographic Frontiers Study Group will resume its first Wednesday of the month meetings. For this occasion, Ilene Meyers will discuss the process of printing as well as different results obtained by using different papers. In addition, she will present examples of prints made on different papers for us to examine and discuss.
Remember to bring photos that you’d like to talk about and perhaps get suggestions on. One of the major purposes of the study group is, after all, for us to help each other in our quests to create great photographs.
